Fair question and skepticism well understood! But we did it and here is the proof (and we did it in the span of 6 months)!
Here is the deal. Most people (and I was one of them to begin with) are under the impression that there is no way to secure two independent power sources as is required to achieve a Tier IV rating as in most countries, there is only one power grid. Not to mention that the national grid in Myanmar is woefully inadequate.
So goes the myth!
The reality is that the most important aspect of achieving this high standard of certification is to ensure fully redundant, autonomous response to system failure to ensure 99.995% up time of the facility. Thus, if the operator has a 2N, fully autonomous generator and UPS system, the Tier IV design certification requirement has been met.
So instead of assuming the myth was true, we learned how to achieve the objective. Where most people stop, we began. We did it because we didn't let other parties tell us we couldn't do it and intrepidly moved forward!
The Burst facility is designed to be fault tolerant with fully redundant, autonomous failure response systems and operations. We are able to operate our facility on a 24/7 basis on generator power alone, if required. In fact, given the instability of the national grid in Myanmar we are hesitant to take power from the national grid until such time as the national grid is stable and reliable.
The other very important aspect of obtaining a Tier IV certification is to ensure a proper sequence of operations has been contemplated so that it is clear how seamless system fail over is achieved. Sometimes parties are good at designing facilities, but not as adept at operating facilities. Again, Burst was fortunate to have two partners: Flexenclosure and Advanced Technologies to provide us guidance in both areas of design and sequence of operations.
As the old saying goes, "sometimes, better lucky than good!" I would like to think we were able to achieve this clearly impressive milestone because we are just very good. However, as good as the Burst team is - and it is very, very good - we could not have accomplished this Tier IV design rating without fate having played a part by bringing Flexenclosure and Advanced Technologies into the picture!
We worked hard and worked smart to secure this certification, but a bit of luck paid dividends and I'll take that luck any day!
